Mencap is the largest provider of direct support to people with a learning disability in the UK.
We have 10,000 paid colleagues and volunteers who directly support about 10,000 people with a learning disability in their homes, into work, and with their housing.
We also campaign on behalf of the total 1.4m people with a learning disability and their families, providing legal advice where necessary. Our annual turnover is around £180m.
We are committed to challenging public attitudes to learning disability and recognise that in order to achieve this objective we need to strengthen communications, building awareness of the brand and understanding of our work. We need to strengthen our profile, deliver more powerful and engaging messages and have a greater impact.
We have therefore created this new senior role, reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the executive. Working alongside the CEO and other executive colleagues, this individual will need to demonstrate strategic leadership qualities and an ability to engage with a range of stakeholders within and beyond the organisation.
We are seeking an experienced, innovative and creative leader with a track record of developing and implementing impactful communications strategies, building engaging brands and campaigning for change.
You will be responsible for a budget of c £2m pa and a directorate of 35 people comprising PR, digital, creative and marketing, and campaigning teams.
