My client is the UK's Leading fish and seafood processor, providing frozen and chilled, branded and retailer branded fish. They are looking for an experienced Junior NPD Technologist to join their team.
The ideal candidate must have a creative flare, be enthusiastic and passionate about the food you create, the ability to work well alongside others within a small kitchen and be responsible for your time management.
Job Purpose
The main purpose is to successfully transfer approved kitchen samples to full factory production. In addition the NPD Technologist will be responsible for assisting in innovation and developing new product concepts and processes in response to customer or internal objectives.
Key Accountabilities
1 To project manage new and existing product projects from customer approval stage: coordinating factory trials to full scale launch, including dealing with customers on site for Pre-pro launches.
2 To make up concept ideas on bench scale with a full cost breakdown & considerations made to process/HACCP
3 To ensure adequate records are maintained at all times, documenting the trial process from start to finish.
4 To co-ordinate any process trials and investigations, which may arise due to the needs of the business.
5 To gain in depth knowledge of all products produced including all processes and machinery.
6 Involved in new processes, ingredients, raw materials and packaging evaluations adhering to the HACCP principles.
7 Conducting internal tastings and collating all tasting information.
8 Responsible for organising Micro and Organoleptic shelf life trials, ensuring results are documented and correct storage is adhered to.
9 Creating and updating when necessary QAS sheets for all new products.
10 To attend and take part in product initial brain storms & come up with ideas
11 To attend customer reviews when required
12 To manage and collate monthly benchmarking sessions
13 To manage all sample requests both internal and external
The role holder plans and organises their work both proactively and reactively.
Proactive planning would typically be over a number of weeks or months and would include planning trials and meetings associated with the development process
The role holder must also be able to react to work e.g. shelf life results and customer requirements such as product changes.
Skills and Experience Required
1 Communicating with customers and all departmental colleagues in a friendly and helpful manner.
2 To be pro-active with regards to problem solving. Looking for solutions to new products that may be problematic when transferred from kitchen to factory.
3 Working closely with the Technical department ensuring all information is available to complete Product Specifications including HACCP's and QAS sheets in a timely manner in order to meet internal and customer expectations.
4 College HNC/HND or University Qualification in Food Science Desirable
5 Experience in a Technical capacity is also advantageous
6 Computer literate, especially Excel
7 A passion for food and ideally seafood!
