A rewarding customer facing opportunity for a well qualified Instrument Scientist with a good understanding of physics principles and the ability to convert complex scientific requirements into clear engineering specifications. Based in Oxford, UK there will some overseas travel required.

This established company, specialists in the design and manufacture of instruments for fundamental scientific research, supply new facilities with bespoke equipment. They are seeking an Instrument Scientist with a higher Degree in Science or Engineering and with 2-3 years relevant experience.

A good understanding of Physics principles and Optics would be ideal as would some exposure to mechanical and electronics engineering, vacuum and thermal technologies. Applications may also be considered from recent PhD graduates with experience at a relevant Photon Science facility.

In this role you will be challenged to identify new ways of achieving product excellence using your scientific insight to solve difficult engineering problems with lateral thinking; youll be the focal point for scientific input on a wide range of instruments, will participate in the development process and will assist in installation and commissioning activities.

The ability to produce technical papers is essential and to deliver oral presentations, so strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
