Environmental Planner - Carlisle

Penguin are pleased to be working with one of the UK's largest consultancies who, as part of a UK wide recruitment drive are recruiting an Environment Planner to their Carlisle office. This is a career defining opportunity for an ambitious planning professional looking to build their reputation and portfolio of planning experience in a successful, rapidly growing consultancy based in the Stafford.
The role
As an Environmental Planner you will be part of an ambitious, successful team providing support to an extensive range of clients with high quality, timely and outcome based development management services. Key responsibilities include;
* Co-ordinating environmental impact assessments;
* Carrying out strategic environmental assessments and sustainability appraisals;
* Producing environmental statements and associated planning documents;
* Contributing specialist technical knowledge to EIA projects as appropriate;
* Carrying out Preliminary Environmental Appraisals;
* Applying for Marine Licences;
* Applying for Environmental Permits for Flood Risk Activities;
* Managing submission of major planning applications;
* Demonstrating good knowledge of environmental / planning legislation;
* Keeping up-to-date with professional developments through a structured training programme;
* Setting an example to other team members, recognising the responsibility to train and assist others with their professional development and achieve the highest possible standards of work.

Job requirements
* Degree or equivalent in an environmental and/or planning subject;
* MIEMA or MRTPI);
* Experience in environmental / planning consultancy or equivalent;
* Experience in environmental permitting for flood risk activities
* Experience in marine licencing / marine planning
* Excellent knowledge of UK environmental / planning legislation;
* Good relationships building skills;
* Good presentation and verbal/written communication skills;
* Able to write clear, concise, high quality reports;
* Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work and willingness to travel;
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
* Enthusiastic and confident approach to work; and
* Ability to prioritise work under pressure and complete within deadlines
